Weekend Reflections

I spent the afternoon at the Met yesterday,
where I saw lots of beautiful things—
among them this 17th-century Dutch goblet.
Etched on the glass is a copy of a 1555 map that shows
the course of the Rhine River from Mainz to Utrecht.

52 Photos Project

The prompt for Week 6—uncommon shapes

I struggled with this one, tried various things
and wasn't satisfied with any of them—then finally
posted this picture, the one that came to mind immediately

for the prompt.  But I have to give the credit to my
daughter Katie, who shot it in Antarctica this year.

Weekend Reflections

I'm running low on local reflections, so here's
one I love from a beautiful sunny day
in Venice.  Wish I were there right now!
(Or how about a little sunshine here in NYC at least?)

The prompt for Week 5:  waterdrops

Bella chose a good theme for this week.
Pretty much all I had to do was go out in the
garden and find a waterlogged flower
—and there were plenty to choose from.

Weekend Reflections

I think the Museum of Natural History is
endlessly fascinating (and they don't mind if
you take pictures—yay).  I'd probably be there a lot
more often if it were less expensive, but I could
say that about most of the museums in NYC.

The prompt for Week 4: crop—before and after

This is my daughter Lila. The first thing I said
when she was born was "She's so beautiful!"
And she was—and still is, inside and out.

Weekend Reflections

This is one of my fave NYC museums,
at Snug Harbor, on Staten Island.  It's a
bit of a trek to get to—but it's worth
going out of your way to visit—and you do
get to ride the Staten Island Ferry.

The prompt for Week 3: street art

As much as I dislike the "work" of no-talent

taggers, that's how much I love real street art.
This was down in the meatpacking district,
near the High Line. The hair is Marilyn Monroe's,
the faces here are clearly Madonna and Angelina Jolie
(there's another one nearby that features the
face of Leonard Nimoy), and they're all
created by an artist known as Mr. Brainwash.

Weekend Reflections

Here's one reflection that James will never be able
to shoot—this is the ladies' room at the Ritz Hotel in Paris.
Actually, he'd have to wait until next year
to take
one in the men's room. The Ritz closed last August
for renovations that are scheduled to take two years.
(Imagine what it will cost after they spruce it up!
At least this room is free.)

52 Photos Project

The prompt for Week 2—"microscopic"

Faced with this challenge, I went on a quest
for the sweetest, eensy-teensiest flowers I could
find at the botanic garden—and here they are:
perfect beauties at +/-  a quarter-inch across.
