52 Photos Project

The prompt this week: in the garden again.
My choice is the
High Line, a very
special garden that has revitalized
the West Side of Manhattan.

Today's Flowers

Saw these colorful cosmos at the local greenmarket.
Didn't bring them home, though, because they
just don't last that long when you cut them—
on the other hand, I can look at this picture forever.

Weekend Reflections

One of my all-time favorite reflections:
the bright summer sun glinting off the beautiful
blue ocean.  Unfortunately, my long (or not) beach
weekend was cut off by the projected arrival of
Hurricane Irene, which is supposed to be passing
right over this beach in the next couple of days.

The prompt this week: profile, silhouette, dark against light.
Here's what I have to share with you.

Today's Flowers

I'm sorry to say that I have absolutely no idea what
this purple bloom is (and it's probably not the
last time I'll be forced to make that admission).
But I'll bet someone out there can tell me!

52 Photos Project

The prompt this week: a time to share (b&w).
Took this picture a loooong time ago (circa late '60s)
in Paris.  Don't know if you recognize this guy
because he's changed a bit in the past 44/45 (!) years.
That's Anita Pallenberg in the background
(he's wearing her sparkly sweater and her scarf—
and, yes, that is exactly what you think in his hand).

Weekend Reflections

Now here's a reflection you don't see every day!
My daughter Kate just spent a week on
an ice cutter way above the Arctic Circle.

Today's Flowers

If you visit the folks who live here at #22, you're greeted
by this gorgeous lacecap hydrangea.  If I didn't live
in an apartment, I'd definitely have one of these!

Weekend Reflections

I think that's a pretty good invitation.
How about you?

52 Photos Project

The prompt this week: a reflection.
I opted for a self-portrait, with the help of
this work in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
It's by a contemporary Iranian artist,
Monir Shahroudy Farmanfaraian,
and it's called "Flight of the Dolphin" (2010).
She was born in 1924—you do the math!

Here's what the whole piece looks like.

Today's Flowers

What could be a more fitting symbol
for rebirth than a flower that rises from
muddy water to become this beautiful bloom?

Exploring With a Camera

The category this time: frame within a frame.
I got up pretty early to capture the street cleaners
(and no one else) in the Piazza San Marco, in Venice.

Weekend Reflections

I saw a party space once that had wonderful lanterns like
these all over the ceiling. Now I know where they got them.

52 Photos Project

The prompt this week: vintage, faded, peeling, rusted.
I imagine the boat got painted and put in the water
(this is Burano, near Venice, where fishing is very important).
But I'd be happy to return and find that this wonderful
wabi-sabi wall has been left alone.
