Prompt for Week 6: light in the dark My ancestors were already here a couple of centuries before this lady graced the New York harbor, but my kids' paternal ancestors were greeted by her when they arrived from Sicily in the early 20th century. I decided on this shot (taken from a dinner cruise around the harbor) because it seems to fit this week's brief both literally and figuratively. Weekend Reflections
Had dinner with some good friends recently at this inventively decorated Thai restaurant— a bit of an oasis in the midst of all the 42nd Street/theater district madness. [To see more Weekend Reflections, visit James's meme.] |

Prompt for Week 5: pink This was a hard one—too many choices! I finally decided on the Brooklyn Botanic Garden's beautiful cherry blossoms —Mother Nature outdid herself with this pink perfection! [To see more of the 52 Photos project, or to play along yourself, see Bella's meme.] |

The Weekend in Black and White
I'll never get enough of the Chrysler Building. At work, I have a pretty nice view from our 24th-floor conference room, but the view from down below is pretty spectacular too (especially with a long lens). [To see more monochromes, go here.] |

Prompt for Week 4: Movement Why is my daughter Lila practicing her hula-hooping skills? Apparently, there's a local watering hole that will reward you with a free pitcher of margaritas if you can keep it up for a full five minutes! Fun idea, and I guess the hula-hooping will cancel out some of the calories. :~} [To see more of the 52 Photos Project, or to play along yourself, visit Bella's meme.] |

Weekend Reflections
This newly refurbished carousel is in Brooklyn Bridge Park, between the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges. Reflected in the ceiling are the folks who were queued up to buy a ticket. [To see more weekend reflections, visit James's meme.] |

Prompt for Week 3: Where We Meet An interesting prompt, and I did go into the archives for this one. When I lived in Paris (a long time ago), the Café de Flore was my favorite meeting place. In those days, even a poor kid like me could afford to live in St. Germain. The waiters would let you sit there (sometimes with Sartre and de Beauvoir deep in thought or conversation at the next table!) for as long as you could nurse a café or a glass of wine—and they didn't cost a lot either. Even though it kills me to pay $10 for a cup of coffee there now, I still like to go to the Flore when I'm in Paris, nurse that coffee until it's ice cold, and reminisce. Weekend Reflections
Found a new store in Greenport, a pretty little town on the North Fork of Long Island. What they sell there is . . . olive oil (and accoutrements). Who knew there were so many different kinds? [To see more Weekend reflections, visit James's meme.] |

Prompt for Week 2: Capture the sun shining in your life Maybe this is more like the sun shining on my life. I saw this heavenly light beaming down on the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and New York harbor as I was crossing in a ferry from Governor's Island to lower Manhattan one late afternoon.
