52 Photos Project

The prompt for Week 3: street art

As much as I dislike the "work" of no-talent

taggers, that's how much I love real street art.
This was down in the meatpacking district,
near the High Line. The hair is Marilyn Monroe's,
the faces here are clearly Madonna and Angelina Jolie
(there's another one nearby that features the
face of Leonard Nimoy), and they're all
created by an artist known as Mr. Brainwash.

  1. Really like this photo. All the black and white and then that shining spot of turquoise. The figure next to the wall adds scale but also a sense of aliveness in contrast to the two dimensional figures. Well done.

  2. I rather like them. I think it says allot about Hollywood and fame. I think it says that they are all manufactured. That they are characters put together by PR men. Great juxtaposition with what appears to be a homeless man.

  4. That's really an interesting cross of art and tagging. Real art and streetwise art.
