Friday Sunset

This chemical-laden sunset over
New Jersey was captured from the
west side of Manhattan.

[You can see more sunsets (or post one
yourself) in the Weekday Photos Challenge
meme, here.]

Ponte di Rialto

Both shots were taken from the vaporetto
as I passed underneath the beautiful Ponte
di Rialto, Venice's first stone bridge—designed,
appropriately, by Antonio da Ponte.

Weekend Reflections

This statue of George M. Cohan in
Duffy Square—directly facing Times
Square—was dedicated in 1959,
and he's been giving his regards to
Broadway ever since.

Mosaic Monday

I was born just a mile (20 blocks) north
of the Chrysler Building—and now I work
right across 42nd Street from it. For me,
it's still New York's most beautiful skyscraper.

[You'll find more Monday Mosaics at Mary's
charming little red house.]

2 things Challenge: Said/Done

Sometimes there's a place for civil disobedience.
And sometimes it's just best to follow what's
obviously good advice (and/or also the law)!

[See more interpretations of this 2 Things Challenge here.]

Ponte Sisto

Named for (and commissioned by) Pope Sixtus IV,
this is the only bridge built across the Tiber
between the fall of the Roman empire and
the 19th century. Much of the material
used to build it came from the Colosseum.

[Go see more bridges, or join in the fun
yourself, chez Louis la Vache.]

Weekend Reflections

Mimi Vang Olsen started out painting people, but
switched to animals when she realized how much
New Yorkers love their pets. I read that a 30" by 40"
oil painting of a dog or cat starts at $2,500. Business
must be good because this storefront studio has been
here for a long time—and she's able to close up the
shop from June to September.
