The prompt for Week 16: somewhere you visited

This is Quito, Ecuador—my daughter Katie
and I overnighted here on our way
to and from the Galapagos.
Lovely city, great food, but the altitude
takes its toll: At 9,350 feet, you get
only 60% of the oxygen you'd breathe in
at sea level (where I live).  My legs felt like
they each weighed about 50 pounds!

The prompt for Week 39: wide open spaces

I live in New York City, where wide open spaces
are at a premium (or pretty much nonexistent). But
about a year ago, I traveled to the Galapagos and
climbed to the top of a big hill to capture
this vista.  (I'm on the uninhabited island of
Bartolomé and off in the distance is Isla Santiago.)

The prompt for Week 19: on the line

In this case, the line is a steel cable high up in the 
Andes, and that's my daughter Katie quite literally "on" it. 
 If she looks a tad apprehensive, it's because she's
 about to go ziplining for the very first time.
(I opted to be tethered to this cute guy
as I flew above the treetops.)

Turned out to be tons o' fun, of course!

The prompt for Week 8—stripes

I found these in the Andean market town
of Otavalo. I wanted to get some of this colorful
striped fabric but couldn't decide and didn't buy any.
I now know which I want—if I ever get back to Ecuador!

While waiting to board a plane in Guayaquil, Ecuador,
most of the passengers were reading—or texting.
Not me—I was wandering around snapping
reflections. James's obsession is contagious!

When I traveled to Ecuador this past fall, I
spent a night at the most beautiful hotel.
Framing the back door of our suite was this
vine that has heart-shaped flowers and leaves.

Weekend Reflections

This pretty pond is at the Hacienda Cusin,
in San Pablo del Lago, Ecuador—a lovingly
restored 17th-century estate that may be the
most beautiful hotel I've ever stayed at.

Haven't played for a couple of weeks,
but that's because I was Internetless in
Ecuador. I found this giant tortoise
(and its reflection) in the Galapagos.
