52 Photos Project

The prompt for Week 34: "favorite photo taken in 2014"

Choosing one photo out of thousands (yes,
thousands) is not so easy.  But if I must, it has to
be this serendipitous shot taken with my iPhone last
January: a foggy Brooklyn Bridge sunrise.

Happy Holidays, everyone!

52 Photos Project

The prompt for Week 10—"at the water's edge"

I haven't made it to the beach yet this summer,
but this is the next best thing: It's Brooklyn Bridge Park,
with an awesome view of the bridge and lower
Manhattan across the East River (to which
these kids are completely oblivious).

52 Photos Project

The prompt for Week 46: How I Start My Day

I love my commute over the Brooklyn Bridge, but
have had to miss it time and again this winter
because of snow and bitter cold.  On this recent
morning, though, heavy fog and a temp in the 30s didn't
keep the usual crew of walkers and runners away.
(And we were well rewarded, don't you think?)

Weekend Reflections

I was crossing the Brooklyn Bridge at
just the right time to see the setting sun
glinting off these windows in DUMBO
(Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass).

The prompt for Week 12: I took a walk and this is what I found

I originally had something else in mind for this, but
last night as I was taking my usual walk home across the
Brooklyn Bridge, I saw up ahead a bride and groom
posing for pics. When I caught up to them,
I asked for a quick shot (with my phone and shooting
into the sun—sorry). That was when I realized they
were in fact a bride and bride! And don't they look happy?

(Their ride was waiting for
 them down under the bridge.)

52 Photos Project

The prompt for Week 33:  What do a morning
and evening of the same day look like for you?

Lately as I've crossed the bridge from Brooklyn
to Manhattan in the morning, I've had mostly
blue skies for my commute.  I find myself going home
over the bridge way less often now that it's dark so early—
and especially when the weather is like this.

52 Photos Project

The prompt for Week 32: The Skies Above

I took this shot as I was walking home at dusk
over the Brooklyn Bridge and the full moon
was rising over the Manhattan Bridge.

52 Photos Project

The prompt for Week 24: Orange

I came across these Tibetan monks on the
Brooklyn Bridge one evening. With a closet
full of clothes (mostly black), I found myself envying
them the simplicity of their colorful saffron robes.

52 Photos Project

The prompt this week: This is my home.
(Where do you go when it's time to go home?)

Pretty much every evening, my commute takes me from
Manhattan on a walk across this beautiful bridge.  When I

get over there to the other side, I'm in Brooklyn—and
very much at home in my favorite part of New York City.

Weekend Reflections

When it's cold, wet, and dark—you can
pretty much have the bridge to yourself.

Sunday Bridges

Early-morning fog on the Brooklyn Bridge.
It's becoming harder and harder to take a shot on
this bridge that doesn't include evidence of
ongoing (apparently until at least 2014) renovations.

Sunday Bridges

I'm changing planes at the SFO airport as I post this.  Unfortunately, all shades were
pulled as we flew in and I had an aisle seat—so no hope of capturing a San Fran bridge.
Guess it'll have to be my usual instead of Louis'.

Sunday Bridges

This is what you get when you try to shoot the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges—
at night and from a boat on choppy water. (To be honest, I like the effect.)

Here's the same thing, captured with slightly less movement a few moments later.

Sunday Bridges

How about a detail?  This little bird is perched
on one of the cables of the Brooklyn Bridge.

Brooklyn Bridge

This is why I love to walk across early in the morning—I have it
almost to myself and I can feel like it really is "my" bridge.

Weekend Reflections

This building (which I've featured on my other blog) overlooks the Brooklyn Bridge—and catches every gorgeous sunset.

Weekend Reflections

In case you find yourself downtown and hungry in the wee hours,
Fishmarket's kitchen is conveniently open until 4 AM.  Do you
recognize "my" bridge reflected in the window?

Brooklyn Bridge

It's the perfect commute, and I try to do it every day (though on
this overcast morning, I only just beat the downpour)!

Weekend Reflections

This guy was stuck in traffic in the middle of the
Brooklyn Bridge. Those of us on the pedestrian
walkway above didn't have that problem—though
it can happen there too. New York gets millions of
visitors and sometimes it seems as though they're
ALL on the bridge at the same time (usually when
I'm there too & just trying to get home). :~}

3 for 1

Here's what I saw while flying home one stormy
night: from left to right, the Brooklyn, Manhattan,
and Williamsburg bridges. (It's best blown up—
why can't they clean the plane windows?)
