59th Street Bridge

aka the Queensborough Bridge—it's the entry point into Manhattan
for the NYC Marathon runners.  They're talking about renaming it for
former mayor Ed Koch.  Sorry—I love you, Ed, but we all know
everyone's gonna keep on calling it the 59th Street Bridge
(ba-da-da-da-da-da-da, feelin' groovy).

Weekend Reflections

A little last-minute shopping in the Village brought
me past this place.  Happy Holidays,  everyone!

Ponte de la Pescaria

This sturdy little bridge is right near
Venice's bustling fish market—just out of
the frame to the left and right.

weekend reflections

Featured this lovely, large lady on my other blog.
This is her close-up, with a little reflective bonus.

Rialto

Early morning in Venice, and the sun was just
coming up over the Rialto Bridge.  Sigh.

Weekend Reflections

These folks enjoying a very expensive cup of something at Caffe Florian
were probably waiting for the water to recede in flooded Piazza San Marco
(which it finally did—the tide comes in, the tide goes out).

Mosaic Monday

Haven't been to this wonderful meme in a while.  But I wanted to
share these images of the precious putti I found on a recent trip
to Rome.  (These were all in the Vatican Museum, where—hallelujah—
you are welcome to take all the photos you want.)

Ponte Rotto

Last week I told someone here that I had not taken any
photos of this bridge on my recent trip to Rome, but then saw
that I had. It's the Ponte Rotto, or "broken bridge," aka
Pons Aemilius, the oldest stone bridge in Rome—
built in the 2nd century BC!  Only one arch is left, and the
new bridge directly behind it is the Ponte Palatino.

Weekend Reflections

You're not allowed to takes photos in the Doge's Palace,
in Venice.  But I couldn't resist sneaking this one—just loved
the reflection of the courtyard in this funky window.
